What is the difference between a financial advisor, financial planner and financial consultant?

These terms can sometimes be used broadly, so it is more useful to understand the actual scope of advice being provided.

A financial consultant or financial advisor may help with different aspects of your finances, while comprehensive financial planning looks at how investments, tax, retirement, insurance, estate planning, cash flow and other decisions fit together. For people with more complex finances, the value often comes from coordinating all of these areas rather than addressing them individually.
